DirectConnect plans remain available to eligible employers headquartered in Brown, Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. New for 2026, DirectConnect plans are available to eligible employers headquartered in the following counties: Aurora, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hughes, Hutchinson, McCook, Stanley and Yankton. Perks for this type of coverage include:

  • On average, potential savings of 15-20%
  • Lower premium
  • Large network of specialty providers and facilities
  • Emergency and urgent care covered outside of DirectConnect network when traveling.

Value-Added Services

Avera Health Plans offers a variety of value-added services to complement the benefits that group plans provide. Depending on the group plan selected, value-added services may differ.

Virtual Visits

Avera Health Plans Virtual Visits offer convenient, 24/7 access to care from the comfort of your home. In addition to urgent care for common illnesses like the flu or sinus infections and behavioral health support,¹ you can now connect with providers for dermatology consultations and lactation guidance.

Virtual visits are available to all members over the age of 2 and can be used anywhere in the United States.

Urgent care and behavioral health visits are covered benefits for most members. Dermatology and lactation consultations are available but may not be covered; standard visit fees may apply.

For most members. Some limitations apply. 

Life Insurance

Your employee plan subscribers receive a $15,000 life insurance policy.2 Additional life insurance options are available for purchase to all qualified groups.

Fitness Membership

Avera Health Plans offers membership discounts at participating fitness centers like GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness Club. Members may also be eligible for the ActiveLife program, which provides rewards based on gym attendance. These benefits support member wellness and encourage regular physical activity.

COBRA Services

All group businesses receive COBRA administration services at no additional fee, if you elect. Services are compliant with COBRA/Continuation of Coverage administration requirements.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Avera Health Plans EAP offers confidential counseling sessions with a licensed mental health professional at no cost for employees, spouses and eligible dependents.

  • EAP can help with issues such as parenting, marital counseling, balancing work and home life, depression, anxiety, grief and more.
  • The three-visit EAP benefit is included in all South Dakota and Iowa ACA small group plans. All group employees and their family members each have access to a total of three EAP visits every year at no cost. These visits are available even if the employee opts not to enroll in coverage from Avera Health Plans.
  • All groups have the option to expand access with the purchase of a five-visit benefit option. The five-visit benefit is available to the subscriber, spouses and eligible dependents.
