Why Choose Avera Health Plans for Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Go with an insurance carrier you can trust. Avera Health Plans has served communities in the Midwest for more than a quarter of a century. Avera Health Plans offers stable coverage, plans that fit your budget and dedicated support from local experts.

Like many Iowans, you value easy access to health care and doctors close to home. That’s why your health insurance plan must have you covered over long distances, while also meeting your needs when accidents happen. Finding the right Medicare Supplement Plan for your needs and budget is easy with guidance from our agents.

While a rural location may make some things more difficult, health insurance should meet you where you’re at. Our expert agents understand that financial stability and accessibility are musts and not nice-to-haves.

What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Medicare Supplement Insurance (MSI), also known as Medigap, works to “fill the gaps” in your Original Medicare coverage. It will offset some of the costs you’d normally pay for on your own. Think of your MSI plan as extra insurance you buy to pay for things like:

  • Co-pays
  • Deductibles
  • Coinsurance

Who is eligible for Medicare Supplement Insurance?

To be eligible for Medicare Supplement Insurance, you must:

  • Be 65 years of age or older and have Medicare Part A and Part B
  • Be under 65 years of age and disabled and have Medicare Part A and Part B
  • Have ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and have Medicare Part A and Part B

Each person has different needs, so it’s best to consult with our licensed agents to understand your best options. If you are on Medicaid, you may not need this insurance plan or any other Medicare Supplement Insurance.

When can I enroll in Medicare Supplement?

  • We accept enrollments throughout the year as long as individuals are enrolled in Original Medicare.
  • First-time enrollment eligibility begins three months before the enrollee’s 65th birthday and continues three months after.
  • For Medicare Supplement Insurance you can enroll year-round with your Medicare number.
  • You are guaranteed issue rights with no health questions if enrolling during your six-month Medigap open enrollment period — the window that begins the first month you have Medicare Part B and are 65 or older.

Contact your local Social Security Office or review the "Choosing a Medigap Policy: A Guide to Health Insurance for People with Medicare" handbook for more details.

2 This is a solicitation of insurance. An agent may contact you. A Plan G policy may not cover all of your medical expenses. Premiums can only increase if we raise the premium for all policies like yours in this state. Neither Avera Health Plans nor its agents are connected with Medicare or state or federal government. Avera Health Plans may offer certain health support services/value-added services, for a fee or for no fee. These services and/or enhanced benefits are not an insured benefit and may be removed at any time.
